Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk Was Commemorated in Istanbul University

10th November Commemoration of Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was arranged in the Garden of Rectorate Building of Istanbul University. At the end of the ceremony, the Rector of Istanbul University Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak gave a speech about Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and the Turkish Republic’s fight for independence.

The ceremony started with the moment when the Rector of Istanbul University Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak put the garland to the Monument of Ataturk and the Youth. When the clocks and watches showed 09.05, people hold a moment of silence in company with the siren sound. After a moment of one-minute standing in silence, the Turkish National Anthem was sung.

“We Express Our Gratitude to Ataturk”

10th November Commemoration of Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk went on with the speech of the Rector of Istanbul University Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak. He started his speech by telling “Today, we are not here together for mourning. We are here together to discharge our duty of loyalty and express our gratitude to his efforts for Turkish Republic.” Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak emphasized that 29th October and 10th November had another meaning for Istanbul University as it was one of the first occupied building in the occupation of Istanbul in 16 March 1920. By stating that this fight was not that ordinary to be memorialized only with a remembrance, Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak told: “While 19th century was coming to an end, all the efforts of the international relations and the states were to close out Ottoman Empire and form proper constitutions which were according to their orders instead. Hence, all the progressive sharing styles were about putting Ottoman Empire aside in the name of reassuring the Europe and the world. At that moment, Turkish Nation achieved to sprout from their own roots unexpectedly as they did in Afrin, Zeytin Dalı and Barış Pınarı today.”

“Our Hopes for the Future Lies within the Youth”

Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak continued his words by emphasizing that Turkey is aware of the power inside and follows the policies that makes it go further: “We carry out 100/2000 Project of the Doctorate Scholarship as a university. This project states to bring up the youth that will provide progress in the pioneer fields for our country in the context of Ataturk’s aim to improve Turkey. Ataturk’s sentence ‘I commend the Republic to the Turkish Youth’ is meaningful. Our hopes for the future lies within the youth and these hopes are not made up of only sentences. We follow the fields where the youth will open ways, point and lead the way in Turkey and put emphasis on the youth’s education.”

“As the world stands, Turkish Nation will stand”

By highlighting the importance of the fight that Ataturk and his friends put forth, Prof. Dr. Ak completed his speech by telling: “We owe a debt of gratitude to Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, his supportive fellow soldiers and all the people that put up a fight for independence. Today, our flag went higher and it will go higher with our togetherness, determination, and the belief in this action. Turkish Nation and their aim will stand as the world stands.”

10th November Commemoration of Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk ended with photo shooting in front of the Monument of Ataturk and the Youth.
