THE SCHOOL OF JURISPRUDENCE

 

History and Establishment

 

At the end of the 1970’s the Ministry of Justice, after having deliberated with some civil and public association, had decided to open new schools that will be named School of Jurisprudence.

 

According to a circular which was dated 15 May 1978 and numbered 210 and had been sent from the Ministry of Justice to the Dean of Law Faculty of Istanbul University, the aim of The School of Jurisprudence is declared such as:

 

“To train and to prapere the staff who will be working in the penitentiary, execution offices and courts offices in order to accelerate the processes carried out in these positions.”

 

The General Council of Law Faculty had accepted the decision of founding such a school. After due legal porcess the establishment of The School of Jurisprudence had been completed. After establishment, the written regulations of The School of Jurisprudence had been made and accepted by Istanbul University Senate. Then it had been published in the Official Gazette [R.G.] on 6th April 1979. So The School of Jurisprudence have started education on 17th December 1979.

 

The main aim of our school is to educate students who are respectful to the principles of Ataturk and who reflect the general values of our university.

 

The courses taken in our school are in the area of Private Law, Public Law and about professionial skills such as typing. The tutors who teach these courses are usually members of the Law Faculty.

 

Postgraduation Opportunities

 

After graduation, the students can take certain positions either in court offices or advocacy offices. During the last years, they can also find certain jobs in banks and in firms. Besides, the students, if they have such qualifications declared in the relevant regulation, can also attend 4-year undergraduate programmes, especially in the law faculties.

The Possibility of Continuation Between Schools of Jurisprudence

 

In Turkey there are three schools of jurisprudence including ours. These are Istanbul University The School of Jurisprudence, Dokuz Eylul University The School of Jurisprudence and Ankara University The School of Jurisprudence. Besides, there are justice programmes in Selcuk University Social Sciences School and Atatürk University Erzincan Social Sciences School. If they want, the students of one of these schools can continue their education in the other jurisprudence schools. For this, some conditions are required. These conditions are declared in the relevant reguation.

 

Library Service

 

Because our school is preparatory undergraduate programme of the Law Faculty, the students can easily use the library services of the Law Faculty.

 

Social and Cultural Activities

 

Because our school building is near Istanbul University Culture Center, the students can easily facilitate activities hold in the Culture Center.

 

Sporting Activities

 

By the Sporting Association of Istanbul University there are several sporting branches performed in our schools. The students participate in sporting activities preferebly in football and basketball. The training centers are in Beyazıt and Avcılar.

 

Health Services

 

The students can use the service of Mediko Social which is also an organisation of Istanbul University. Mediko Social works between official working hours and has an ambulance.

 

Dormitory Oppurtunities

 

The students can stay in the dormitory of either Kredi Yurtlar Kurumu or Istanbul University. 

 

The Catering Services

 

There is a dining hall in the Beyazıt Campus. The students can eat their lunch there.
