ACTIVITIES

Activities of ODVİM between the years 1991 and 1996

  • To improve the audiovisual medical education, closed circuit audio-visual systems were established between the classrooms and surgery rooms in Istanbul Medical and Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculties.


  • To prepare educational slides in data processing environment and material for the sessions through diskettes, CD's and dia positives, necessary equipment and laboratory conditions were established.


  • Visual material in data processing environment were provided. Technical infrastructure was constructed for moving shots, video montage, subtitle, animation, sound recording, video cassettes and CD's preparing.


  • Necessary equipment for members of the university to be used in the lessons and scientific meetings were provided like monitors, video players, cameras, video-data projector, notebook, slide machine, overhead projector, closed circuit audiovisual equipment.


  • Opportunity to use the video archive for the specialist students for following the visual education material through videocassette's and CD's were provided.


  • Visual material for the medical students to improve their theoretical and practical knowledge were provided.


  • Periodic courses for Videoscopic surgery with Videoscopic Surgery postgraduate education programmes were organized beginning from 1992, which is current movement in the world.


  • National and International Congresses ( European 4'th Video Surgery Congress held on 4-6 June 1994 and National Endoscopic- Laparoscopic Surgery Congress held every two years with International participation since 1993.)


  • Activities of İSTEM between the years 1997-2002

  • Audiovisual support for training and education was improved (necessary equipment for the lessons and meetings were provided for 499 scientific activities, 2112 training material were prepared for 345 university members between 01.01.2000- 21.11.2001)


  • Continuous Distance Medical Learning and Telemedicine Programs which is also a new concept in the world was initialized and improved.


  • Distance Learning technologies were investigated and suitable technology for our country has been determined.


  • Associated projects were initialized with the international organizations participated in distance medical learning.


  • National Telemedicine Program was initiated under the leadership of Istanbul University on 3rd April 2000 and first National Telemedicine Symposium was held in Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty Auditorum.


  • Many meetings were held with Turkish Telekom Inc.which is the only telecommunication service provider in Turkey, to organize the infrastructure of Telemedicine project in the country.


  • The other associate institutions and universities for Telemedicine Project were investigated in the Country


  • System investigations were held in and outside of the Country through the chain of meetings with the experts of related firms and organizations.


  • 2 different visual communication systems were set up between the campuses of Istanbul Medical Faculty and Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty.

    2. Fiberoptic dataline

  • Subscriptions for fiberoptic datalines for both Istanbul Medical Faculty and Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty were realized.


  • Beginning from 1997, with the present Radiolink data lines and new subscribed ISDN lines, visual communication was established between Istanbul Medical Faculty and Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty and meetings were held through this new communication system.


  • Beginning from the 2000-2001 in some departments of Istanbul Medical Faculty and Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty, especially in General Surgery Department, some of the periodic scientific meetings were held through associated video conference system such as live surgery visions, introduction of new cases and clinico-patological (CPC) meetings and others.


  • In 4-6th April 2000, ISDN data link was established in the Auditorium of Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty to follow European course on Laparoscopic Surgery held in Brussels. At least 500 doctors in the country had the opportunity to follow this Meeting and watch live surgeries.


  • Last year, again through the ISDN data lines, both Istanbul Medical Faculty and Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty linked to scientific video conferences in abroad such as Brussels, Strasbourg, Toullouse, Bordeaux, Tubingen, Paris, Hamburg, Telaviv, Upsala(Sweden), Memphis(USA), etc.....
    In 22-24th April 2002, Live surgery connections via satellit was performed with the support of EUTELSAT from Free University of Brussels to University of Istanbul during the 5th National Endoscopic- Laparoscopic Surgery Congress for European Telesurgery Teaching Program.
