-Call for Paper- INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ENVIRONMENT AND RELIGION 15th-16th May 2008 Theology Faculty Istanbul University ISTANBUL-TURKEY Main theme of the Symposium Environmental problems that threaten the future of the world and the humanity became one of the most important matters on our agenda. Activities on the behalf of solution for these problems are unfortunately insufficient against the growing environmental problems. Most important work to solve global environmental problems is to make all human being conscious about this subject. If it is considered the effect of the religion that takes important role among the social institutions to human life, it is clear that it is indispensable means for the solution. Firstly, Islam, Judaism, Christianity and the other religions have doctrines which include important warnings for the sake of protecting the environment. Theology Faculty in collaboration with some societies and trusts that contribute to forming awareness and environmental ethics invites papers in two-day conference on eco-theology and environmental ethics. The venue place is located in Istanbul, a meeting place of cultures and civilizations. International Symposium on Environment and Religion that is organized by the Faculty of Theology of Istanbul University will bring together the leading scholars throughout world with various religious and cultural backgrounds. Some preliminary major topics: 1. Environmental Crisis and Religious Responses 2. Theology and Ecology or Eco-theology 3. Environmental Ethics 4. Environmental Peace 5. Education of Environment 4. Nature, Creature and Cosmos in Religious Texts 5. Environmental Law (Law of water and law of land etc.) 6. Environmental Psychology 7. Ecology and Spirituality 8. Environmental sociology/Eco-sociology Program: 15th-16th May 2008: Academic presentations and discussions.
Academic schedule of the symposium is following: 31.01.2008 Deadline for submission of abstracts 14.02.2008 Notification date of accepted abstracts 30.04.2008 Deadline for submission of the complete papers

Registration and Fee: Those who wish to attend at the symposium with a paper are expected to submit an abstract of approximately 200 words with brief Curriculum Vitae by email to sempozyumilahiyat@istanbul.edu.tr . No fees for the registration and there is no financial assistance for the expenses of participants. Regarding to find an accommodation in hotels, B&B etc and the transportation, there would be a personal assistance for the participants.
