ATATÜRK’S PRINCIPLES AND HISTORY OF TURKISH REVOLUTION I
The main objective of this course to achieve a higher understanding of the basic principles of which Turkish Republic was built on, in terms of analyzing the history of the revolutionary period and the principles of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, whom mostly determined the course of the revolution. The second objective is to examine the revolutionary period in relation with the basic terms of political science and to analyze the historical approach of Turkish people in relation with the “modernization” in which the modern states evolved. INTRODUCTION TO THEORY OF PUBLIC FINANCE
This course is to provide students with the concepts and theories needed to understand the essence of public finance. It concentrates on the government expenditures and tax policies, and on the impact of government activities on the allocation of resources and on the distribution of income. Course contents are; nature and scope of the public sector, functions of the public sector, public goods, external cost case and public intervention, external benefit case and public intervention, increasing and decreasing cost monopolies and public intervention, public expenditure, definition and taxonomy, efficiency in public expenditure, taxation system, principles of taxation, technics of taxation, efficiency in taxation, budget system and procedure.
TURKISH ECONOMIC HISTORY
The course is divided into two main parts. The first part of the course analyzes the economic and social conditions of the pre-Ottoman Turkish states (The Great Seljukian Empire, Anatolian Seljukian Empire etc.) as well as providing insight about the economic and social development of the Ottoman Empire using Ottoman state archives. The second part of the course aims to teach about the history of economical development from the establishment of the Turkish Republic till 1960. Especially the reasons and results of the practice of state intervention of Atatürk Era are analyzed. Part I: The Basis of Ottoman Economics, XIV-XX. centuries: Social structure (population, social strata, settlement); The Ottoman fiscal system; Timar and wakf systems; Transportation and trade; Money and finance systems; Trade guilds and fixed price (narh) system. Part II: The Economic Structure of Turkish Republic: The economic and social heritage that went down to Turkey from Ottoman Empire; Turkish Independence War and its financing; Economic history of the Era of Atatürk (1923-1938); The economic and social conditions of Turkey during the Second World War (1939-1950); The economic conditions of the Era of Democratic Party (1950-1960).

TURKISH TAXATION SYSTEM
This course is to provide students with the the basic elements of Turkish Taxation System. It concentrates on the definitions related to taxation system in Turkey and kind of taxes. Course contents are; definition of income, tax base, tax payer, tax rates, allowances, exemptions and deductions implemented for the main taxes on income (income and corporations tax), consumption (VAT and some excises) and property i.e., an economic look at the contemporary Turkish tax system, the impact of the Turkish tax system on the saving supply and on the income redistribution, the efficiency and equity issues of the Turkish tax system.
