The Department of Economics, which is the part of the Faculty of Economics of Istanbul University, has built a reputation for academic excellence in undergraduate and graduate education as one of its highest priorities since 1936.
The primary objective of the department is the enhancement of the students' lifelong knowledge and experiences. Acquiring understanding and an appreciation of varied approaches to the acquisition of knowledge through exposure to economics, mathematics and social sciences enables students to strengthen their ability to reason and cope with new situations.
In designing the program, the department has focused on how the basic techniques of economic analysis provide a framework which can be used to help understand any society. Topics include Economic Principles, Statistics, Labour Economics, Money and Banking, Public Finance, Economic Development, International Economics, Microeconomic Analysis, Comparative Economic Systems, Regional Economics, Economics of Industrial Organization and so on.

International Relations
Graduates of the Department of Economics enjoy high acceptance rates at graduate and professional schools and compete successfully in the job market with graduates of other universities.
