Since the industrial revolution, the joining of great populations into work life and the increase in welath level has attracted socities’ attentions to work relations and social services. In the globalization area we are living today, the importance of the subject has incresaed even more with the fastly developing information technology. This situation has caused academic attention increase about these subject.
Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations which focuses its research and education activities generally on social problems and social services and specificly on the work relations between employees and employers is the first and biggest structure in Turkey on this area.
This department’s students are taught on expert level subjects about human’s social life and work life from the social, law and economic views along with general economics and business administration education.
Social policy, social security, social planning, town planning and environment problems disciplines which aim providing social wealth and happiness are among the subjects the students are lectured. Work relation is the second area widely covered by the students. Employee and employer relations on personal and collective level, unionism, collective agreement, human resources management, wage, employment, fight against unemployment and efficiency are other subjects among the course schedule of the department.
Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations provides the opportunity of one year compulsory prep class in order to prepare its students better for market conditions. The students are educated for one year by foreign language lecturers according to their language level. In the following years 30% of the lectures are given in foreign language.
Graduates of the department have the chance to find jobs in all private sectors the banking, finance sectors, work as expert, inspector and high level administrator in trade unions. Also they can be employed as inspectors or experts in Ministry of Work and Social Security and all the other official institutions.
