Midwifery Department’s aims;

The programme has been designed to daignose pregnancy, to examine pregnants, to observe and care mother and fetus during prenatal and postnatal period; to assist labor, to remove placenta with hands, to control uterus and make episiotomy if necessary; postnatal period and send to other health institutions at risk; to educate midwifies joining in family planning practice.

 

Nursing Department’s aims;

The programme has been designed to direct and convey nursing care service which has health improvementative, illness preventative, treatmentative, rehabilitative, and supportive qualities; to educate health care workers and clienst; to work as an effective member of health team; to develop nursing practice via researches and critical ideas; to develop human power in nursing field.

 

A CAREER IN A NEAR FUTURE

 

              Bakıköy Sağlık Yüksekokulu (Bakirköy College of Health) admits high school graduated students, for standard license programmes of four years.

 

The license degrade students from our institution may find it provided to have a job in various posts of private, public and university hospitals as well as of the health care units, dispensary centres, maternity hospitals, mother and child care units family planning affixes and of the health care departments in certain industrial and educational foundations.

 

              The very need for trained and efficient health care personnel in this country would naturally prove a central advantage to our degreed license students in their professional lives.

            Students who have graduated from our Institution of higher education may find the opportunity to work in private, public and university hospitals as well as in the health units, dispensaries, maternity hospitals, in the centres of mother and child care and family planning and in the fields of health care in industry and school.

            The need for trained and perfect health care personnel in Turkey supplies (offers) great advantages to our graduates in their professional lives.

OVER THE SYSTEM AND TERMINOLOGY

 

              Common academically calendar of Istanbul University applies for Bakırköy Sağlık Yüksekokulu (Bakirköy College of Health)

 

              Requirements for the first year students are in one centre and in the dates fixed by Istanbul University. Other wise, the student office of our school is formally responsible in any proceedings concerning the students, first year or former.

 

 

 
 
INFORMATION ON THE CONTENTS AND RESULTS GAINED

 

 

              As a disciplinary guide for “Bakırköy Sağlık Yüksekokulu”, a health care department of Istanbul University.

 

              The school admits students for four-year or eight half-year, license programmes, in the following way.

 

              Only high school graduated students with a successive degree of “Sayısal Puan” (meaning a count of marks of math, physics, chemistry etc….) over the last OSYS examination a yearly examination, proper and common over the country for the sorthing and establishing the students, hense “Öğrenci Seçme ve Yerleştirme Sınavları”, OSYS are recited.

 

              Covering four years or eight half years, the semesters include the following three main groups of subjects, theoretically and practically:

v     Professional disciplinary subjects

v     Elementary principle subjects

v     Cultural and popular subjects propels both in classes and labs.

 

              The whole school-year proceedings both theoretical and practical are held in the classrooms and laboratories of our school building.

 

              When the students become able to land work, they are taken, by their own instructors and superwisers out for, clinical practice to the:

 

v      Hospitals of Medicine Faculties

v     Primary Health Centers

v     Women Hospitals

v     Public hospitals

v     Health care units

v     Convalescent Homes for Children or elderly

         A volleyball court and a saloon for tennis tables in the school are present facilities to any interest.

         Our volleyball team, Bakirköy Sağlık Yüksekokulu Volleyball Team regularly joins to the turn avers for scheduled matches.

In accordance with the philosopahy and aim of Istanbul University, Bakirköy of Health College new students attending Nursing College are informed of the profession of nursing and its contributers, by introducing the setting in which they will continue their education.

This develops student’s capacity to comprehend the importance, position, role and functions of the discipline of nursing in the protection and improvement of the health of individuals, families and the society as well as its relations with the other disciplines concerning health. It also develops the capacity to come to decision in a right and proper way, in the application of the process of care and solution determining the health problems with relation to him or her and to his or her family, in case of a disease or infirmity. This course is related with the entry-level students. The course takes the human as a whole with his environment and needs and teaches the required information basic rules, items and applications by using the personal health rules and basic human needs which are all needed in next years of education and professional life.

The course focuses on the woman, her infant, her family, human sexuality and nursing care related to the gynaecologic needs of women from childhood to older adulthood. The basic principles which guides the nursing practice are health promotion, disease prevention and holistic approach.

This course consists of holistic approach that according to the systems is to examine disorders of health in child and to monitor normal growth and development from childhood and adolescent.

This course is to explain epidemiological basic concepts, their cause and results, frequency and distribution of the diseases and level of community health.

The course aims to research the nursing act by means of the importance of deontology in nursery, the developmental history of nursing, national and international profession organisations, the social status of nursery, the required properties of the nursery and the rights, duties and responsibilities of nurses against law in the point of view of ethics.

This course is to provide a basic for understanding and evaluating findings of research and for using research findings in clinical practice. It also covers the steps of the research process. .

331401   Psychiatric Nursing ( Credit: 14 / ECTS: 22 )

Our aim is to have our students the appropriate communication and coping methods, improve the ability to teach and consult principles for psychiatric patient care. Mental health concepts and selected theoretical frameworks are used to understand adaptive and maladaptive coping behaviours in response to alteration in psychological functioning. These theoretical frameworks, as well as designated diagnostic classification systems, are discussed in relation to the implementation of the nursing process. Student’s engage in critical thinking to exam the role of the nurse in psychiatric- mental health nursing, exploring it in relation to health promotion, diseases prevention, community resources, historical perspectives, and economic, legal and ethical issues. Acute care and community-based clinical experiences provide opportunities, for students to participate in interdisciplinary team planning interventions, and therapeutic group meetings.

This course aims to supply an adequate training in the field of nursing which the member has necessary knowledge skill and behaviour to provide completion at home care and other health institute among individual, family and community according to basic health services.

This course aims to have our students who are began to midwifery education awareness of profession and provide their adoption in profession preparation process. 

332102  The Fundamentals of Midwifery ( Credit: 11 / ECTS: 16)

 

This develops  students’ capacity to comprehend the importance, position, role and functions of the discipline of midwife in the protection and improvement of the health of individuals, families and the society as well as its relations with the other disciplines concerning health. It also develops the capacity to come to a decision in a right and proper way, in the application of the process of care and solution determining the healt problems with relation to him or her and to his or her family, in case of a disease or infirmity. This course has oriented the students who have already started studying midwifery to teach on the main concepts of the occupation and professional principles and rules and methods and demonstrations. The technical part of the lesson validates in skill laboratory and on a model or on a student mannequin.

This course is based on interpersonal relationships. Our aim is to have students can awareness varied communication problems which are met during clinical practices. The implications of midwife practice acts are discussed in the midwife – client relationship the implications of the code of ethics with interpretive statements are discussed for the midwife – client relationship. The midwifery process is described as a framework for professional midwifery practice and the midwife – client relationship.

This course is to examine physical and psycho - social health care of pregnant women and newborn in prenatal, natal and postnatal period. In addition, this course is benefit of the student who will take care of mother and fetes in labour and birth period, assessment and care of newborn, to learn pelvic examination and assessment women health problems. 

332302  High Risk Delivery and Postpartum ( Credit: 8 / ECTS: 12 )

This course is to examine risk situations in prenatal period, labour, birth and postnatal period and give information about their midwifery care. In addition, this course is benefit of the student who will take care of high risk mother and fetes in labour and birth period, assessment and care of newborn and assessment physical and psychosocial health problems. This course focuses on improving maternal and infant health including increasing prenatal care, reducing complications of pregnancy, family planning counselling, providing special follow-up of high risk women in primary health care setting.

This course is to obtain needed information to the student about improving and preventing of newborn health, disorders and newborn care, high-risk newborn, family-centred care of the newborn.

This course aims to supply an adequate training in the field of nursing which the member has necessary knowledge skill and behaviour to provide completion at home care and other health institute among individual, family and community according to basic health services.

This course focuses on giving information about heredity, genetic material, morphology and division of the cell, chromosome aberrations, prenatal diagnosis and genetic counselling.

This course aims to research the midwifery act by means of the importance of deontology in midwifery, the developmental history of midwifery, national and international profession organisations, the social status of midwifery, the required properties of the midwifery and the rights, duties and responsibilities of midwives against law in the point of view of  ethics.

Aims of this course are practice of midwifery students class IV. The students develop midwifery practice. These practices take at clinical gynaecology obstetrics and care of primary health.

Our aim is to have our students use the appropriate communication and coping methods, improve the ability to teach and consult principles for woman of 15-49 age groups and women’s family care.
