Graduate education at the Institute of Social Sciences consists of M.A. and Ph.D. studies and the proficiency in arts studies necessary for arts subjects, and the courses, research, and applications required for these. The institute fosters scientific international research through M.A. and doctorate studies and publications in the field of social sciences. The departments and programmes affiliated to the Istanbul University faculties of Letters, Economics, Business Management, Political
Sciences, Law, Communications, Hasan Ali Yücel Teacher Training, and Divinity, and the Istanbul University State Conservatory implement their M.A. and Ph.D. programmes under the auspices of the Institute of Social Sciences. The minimum duration of M.A. studies is four terms. That of doctorate studies is eight years. Those students who complete the credit courses they are registered in in two terms with a minimum grade average of BC, and who achieve a minimum grade of 60% at the State Personel Foreign Language Level Evaluation Examination, can then procede to complete their doctorate programme in a minimum of six terms.
