The College of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation
was initially a department of the Istanbul Faculty
of Medicine and became an independent college
in 1997. Medical rehabilitation is defined as “the
efforts to normalize the physical and mental health
of disabled people, and to provide them with
jobs and a social and professional place in society.”
The college follows these standards to train
physiotherapists

cognizant in basic medicinal
knowledge and having reinforced this knowledge
with clinical learning and skills, able to bring
modern, qualified solutions to the problems of
their society and the individuals therein. Training
takes eight terms (four years). The first year is
devoted to fundamental medicine. The second
year is spent learning evaluation methods in
physiotherapy and exercises used in treatment.
Third year studies focus on specific rehabilitation
techniques and approaches to individual patient
rehabilitation, with an emphasis on applied work.
The last year is devoted to clinical work.
On the protection of social health level,
physiotherapists help healthy people by teaching
them posture improving exercises and techniques.
They are involved with patients in the treatment
phase and improve the quality of life and
independence of these individuals through the
special techniques that they know. Alumni of
this college can work in a number of positions,
such as university hospitals, private hospitals,
sports clubs, retirement homes, and treatment
centres for Down’s Syndrom sufferers.
