The institute was founded in 1924 to examine, research, and publish in fields such as the language, folklore, history, art and cultural history of the Turkish culture and civilization. It is active in three departments, “Turkish Language and Literature”, “Turkish History”, and “Turkish Art”. The institute library possesses a valuable collection of works, including the 7354 volumes of books of N.A. Katanov bought in 1914, and the more then 55 000 books acquired until now through purchase or donations. The institute organizes national and international turcology congresses where subjects such as the Turkish language, literature and history of art are scrutinized. |
