Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine is a result of the division into separate units of the Faculty of Medicine in 1967. With the latest medical equipment, the faculty upholds an innovative attitude. It trains its students to be abreast with the latest developments in the world of medicine, and the scientific research undertaken by its academic staff has a worldwide reputation. In 1987, a medical programme in English was established at the faculty. There is also a Department of Medical Biological Sciences. Medical programmes are of a 12-term (six years) duration and education takes place in three phases. The first 2 years cover fundamental sciences, followed by a three-year period studying clinical sciences. Students completing this programme successfully are further trained in the practice of family medicine and thus are Scholarshiped the right of becoming physicians. The faculty offers its students extracurricular activities at its library and sports facilities. There are a large number of student clubs where students can take part in social activities. The faculty further serves the public through health services offered using the latest technologies and treatments. It has 1175 staff members, a supportive personel of 2483, 2652 students, 2 500 specialized doctors, and 2000 beds, and can treat 3 000 outpatients a day. The Patients' School is a new health service established with the cooperation of the faculty with the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, starting with a pilot programme initiated in 2001. Patients with chronic ailments that produce negative effects on their every day life are supported and taught how to live more comfortably with their illnesses.
