Accommodation, Sustenance & Health Istanbul University is supportive of its students in relation to their accommodation problems too, as this is of importance for the healthy continuation of their studies.
We offer approximately 1500 student the opportunity to reside on campus. New hostels were added to the existing ones in the 2000-2001 academic year. Students apply for admittance to hostels as they register. Detailed information on hostels can be obtained from the Guidance-Counseling Social Support Units.

Our students can eat cheap and hygienically prepared meals at the cafeterias situated on the campus they study on.
In addition to the cafeterias, there are also student canteens at every faculty and college. Our students can make use ofcafeterias and canteens throughout the academic year, starting from October.
Health Services
Istanbul University offers health services to its students at the five medico-social centres situated at various places on the campuses and at the two faculties of Medicine that are among the best established health institutions in Turkey.
The first places all students registered at Istanbul University should apply to for health-related problems are the Medico-social centres affiliated to the Department of Health, Culture, and Sports. Students are examined at these centres, and supplied with health reports and prescriptions. Medication is dispensed at the Istanbul University Application Pharmacies, in compliance to the budgetary means of the Students Social Services Unit Accounts Office. If need be, students are deferred to the hospitals of the university. Initial examinations and treatment are supplied for them and their families, whether they be covered or not by a social security scheme, at the Medico-social centres, and treatment is followed up, if necessary, at the hospitals of the faculties of Medicine. Students and their families who are covered by the Bagkur Social Security Scheme are examined and treated at the Medico-social Centres, but cannot be deferred to university hospitals.
