General Information

Istanbul University, Department of Translation Studies was founded in 1993 within the structure of Faculty of Letters. Division of German Translation and Interpreting started its undergraduate programme in the academic year 1993/1994. French and English Divisions were founded in the academic year 2000.

There were only 6 Translation and Interpreting Departments (in English, French and German languages) in Turkey when Istanbul University, Department of Translation and Interpreting organized a conference which brought all of the institutions together in 1996.  By 2008, this number reached 22 (in English, German, French, Russian, Bulgarian, Chinese languages).

Undergraduate, Master of Arts and  Ph.D. Programmes for translation and interpreting education are offered by Istanbul University, Department of Translation Studies.
