LITERATURE AND... The initiative to start a series of conferences that would contribute fresh ideas and new approaches to the study of literature today came from a group of young academicians working as teachers and research assistants at the Department of American Culture and Literature at Istanbul University, who, during one of the Department’s monthly academic meetings in 2007, expressed their wish to have a platform on which they would be given the opportunity to present, and open to discussion, their studies including MA and PhD theses, academic articles and various other projects. The proposal was welcomed by the senior members of staff, who encouraged them to start a series of conferences that would allow for an international forum whereby a diversity of fresh insights would be shared by graduate students and young academicians.
