She was born in İstanbul in 1956. Following her graduation, in 1976, from Istanbul University Faculty of Letters Division of German Language and Literature, she started working as a lecturer of German at Istanbul University Department of Foreign Languages.  In 1983, she completed her PhD on linguistics at the same division. She currently works as the Deputy Head as well as the Director of German Unit at Istanbul University Department of Foreign Languages.
